DO Things //
“It is true that God may have called you to be exactly where you are. But, it is absolutely vital to grasp that he didn’t the call you there so you could settle in and live your life in comfort and superficial peace” – Francis Chan
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about dreams and aspirations, maybe its because we are upon a fresh new year, maybe its because I’m now out of high school and starting “real life”. Im not sure to be honest, but here I am at 12:39 A.M. on January 30th, awake because my brain has 250 tabs open. Im a dreamer, a late night dreamer at that. But I want to be a doer. I don’t want to dream up these great things and leave them in my thoughts, I want to do things with this precious life, Not just for me but for others. There is so much earth I haven’t set foot on, so much music I haven’t heard yet and so many people I need to meet. Its not that Im not content, I just know there is so much more to life than our “bubbles” that we too often get too cozy in. Luckily Ive learned big lessons about comfort zones at such a young age. Great things never came out of comfort zones. I mean, you can do great things right where you are, in your office, at school, at home with your kids, your whole life is at your fingertips. Goodness, sharing Jesus with people is the greatest thing you could ever do and thats right there in your backyard.
Bloom where you’ve been planted regardless if you are at home mostly or you travel more than a flight attendant.
I know there is so much I need to push myself to do. Life gets cozy really easy when you’re doing “okay”. Quite honestly, I crave travel, good conversations and fresh experiences. Im about to start a new venture as a part time student at our local bible college. I bet you didn’t think apart of me is terrified of that. Why? Because I’m committing to something for 4 months, thats why. What if I fail or suck at making friends in the adult world. I own a business and although its my passion and exciting, it can be so scary. Why? Gosh there are so many grown up things I’m still figuring out. What? Me? A business woman? Nahhhh.
Im a weekly writer for a non profit blog, I feel so inadequate sometimes. Why? Because I have this platform that so many people look to. Words are powerful. Sometimes I lead worship for youths, Why does this humble me, terrify me and make me question myself? Because I get to lead people into the presence of God, and if thats not powerful than nothing is.
My point is, and this is probably all just for me, who knows… don’t let your fears stop you. If you want to write but you fear what others are going to think of you, or you want to start wearing polka dots instead of stripes but your worried how people will see you, stop worrying about them and be brave to be you. Seriously you’re great. *high five*
Seriously, think up something crazy right now. Is that Going to Hawaii with your best friends next year? Is that starting your own business? Signing up for a 5k? Volunteering for a non-profit?
Hey, guess what, you can do it. Its really easy, Ill tell you how.
Step 1. Tell yourself you can do it.
Step 2. If the thing requires practice or saving money, do accordingly.
3. do it
4. throw confetti because you’re awesome.
Sometimes I have to seriously evaluate what is holding me back from something. So often I have these profound thoughts in the most minuscule moments of my day, like in the shower or driving to a job. Surprise! Its always myself holding ME back, weather thats fear of failure or judgement, money or even not being able to say “no.” to something that doesn’t free me up for something else. Its time we change things and do something great. Do something little even, finish that book on your nightstand, try that new recipe on pinterest you pinned forever ago, buy that plane ticket to somewhere new. Its gotta start somewhere. Why do we live our lives in a monotonous cycle when there is SO much more if we just pushed ourselves just a bit?
You….yes you. Are more than capable of amazing things. Don’t ever let someone tell you otherwise. Life is a great thing, it’s fleeting, and sometimes cut short. This world, although filled with lots of negativity is also created oh-so marvelously by the same Maker who made you. Go, discover. A great thing someone told me was “Explore while you’re young and don’t have anything to tie you down.” I think I will, Thank you.

James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. 17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me. 19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. 20 For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. 22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel. 23 Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it goes with me. 24 But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come shortly. 25 Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need;
Hey, reminder, God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.
So go, because you’ve been gifted a crazy beautiful life. Let’s put down our cell phones, fears and doubts and do something.
